Ice and Glaciers

Glaciers around the world are melting.

The melting of arctic ice is one example.

Thawing Siberian permafrost will release vast quantities of methane.

One of my favorite glaciers, the Sólheimajökull.

Glaciers are melting because of global warming.

95 percent of the glaciers in the world are retreating or shrinking.

Oceans come and go. Mountains come and go. Glaciers come and go.

And so kind of thinking about scale, my most recent obsession is actually with glaciers of course.

I have swum in front of glaciers which have retreated so much.

Which are black by reason of the ice, in which the snow hides itself.

Which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid

He is also the author of Himalayan Glaciers Hydrology and Hydrochemistry and scores of scientific papers.

We're working in most of the major glaciated regions of the northern hemisphere.

And we wanted to find out and we see all kinds of glacial features on it.

And there's a volcano behind, which has glaciers at the very top.

Melting snow from the Himalayan glaciers increased the water levels of the Brahmaputra River.

And so I actually live in Canada now, so I've been visiting one of my local glaciers.

It lies at the junction of three major glacial systems the Bonar Glacier, which drains into the Waipara River, and the Volta and Therma Glaciers, which both drain into the Waitoto River.

Not all species need to drink every day, and the Tibetan sandgrouse does not need to travel to drink because of the abundance of water from melting snowfields in its habitat.

However climate models show that ice is not stable at Hecates Tholus today, pointing to climate change since the glaciers were active.
