They've understood there is a generalized concept of straightness, it's called a geodesic.

When I choose the appointed time, I will judge blamelessly.

When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.

Let my sentence come forth from your presence. Let your eyes look on equity.

I will give thanks to you with uprightness of heart, when I learn your righteous judgments.

Let my sentence come forth from thy presence let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.

I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments.

We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well.

And indeed We bestowed Ibrahim with guidance from the beginning, and We were Aware of him.

We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude for We knew him

And assuredly We vouchsafed un to lbrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known.

And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.).

We gave Abraham his integrity formerly, and We knew him well.

Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well.

And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him,

Certainly We had given Abraham his probity before, and We knew him

Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him.

And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well Knowing

To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well.

And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well.

Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well.

We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him.

Those who have submitted have taken the right course

Those who have surrendered sought rectitude

Then whosoever hath embraced Islam such have endeavoured after a Path of rectitude.

And whosoever has embraced Islam (i.e. has become a Muslim by submitting to Allah), then such have sought the Right Path.

As for those who have submitted it is they who pursue rectitude.

So those who became Muslims found the Right Course

And whoso hath surrendered to Allah, such have taken the right path purposefully.

Those who surrendered sought the Right Path,

And whoever has become Muslim those have sought out the right course.

Whoever has embraced Islam has followed the right guidance.

Now those who submit their wills they have sought out (the path) of right conduct

They are established forever and ever. They are done in truth and uprightness.

They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.

The thoughts of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.

The thoughts of the righteous are right but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you.

Let integrity and uprightness preserve me for I wait on thee.

How enduring, our bland fatal assurance that reflection is righteousness being accomplished.

How forcible are words of uprightness! But your reproof, what does it reprove?

He who walks in his uprightness fears Yahweh, but he who is perverse in his ways despises him.

How forcible are right words! but what doth your arguing reprove?

He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

It's a sense of economy and a sense, also, of humor.
