It is but a brief comfort.

Their gains are only a means of enjoyment in this life.

A brief enioyment, and unto them shall be a torment afflictive.

And when good toucheth him he is begrudging.

A passing brief enjoyment (will be theirs), but they will have a painful torment.

And niggardly when good touches him

A brief enjoyment then they will have a painful punishment.

Touched by good, he is ungenerous.

Brief is their enjoyment of the world, and thereafter they shall suffer a painful chastisement.

and tight fisted when good fortune visits him,

A brief enjoyment (will be theirs) and theirs a painful doom.

And, when good befalleth him, grudging

Their share of the present life is a trifling enjoyment, and there will be a painful punishment for them.

Brief (is their) enjoyment, after which a painful punishment awaits them.

(Such an invention) will bring only a little enjoyment but will be followed by painful torment.
